Xanthe of Whitefield

Yellow Dun Mare Born April 1989 Sire: Sergeant Major of Whitefield Dam: Monkey of Whitefield

Xanthe was born on 29th April and was "swapped" for a homebred filly out of Mollaig of Achnacarry because Mr Baird was keen to get some old bloodlines back. I had always liked Monkey of Whitefield and also her bloodlines (Sire: Glentromie Trooper Dam: Ilean Dilus of New Calgary) and as I had never managed to breed a yellow dun I was very happy with the deal. Xanthe has been shown both in hand and under saddle and has won several Championships in hand AND one in saddle as a four year old. Since that one she has bucked most times in the ridden classes thus loosing her any chances of doing well! She was 2nd Prize Yeld mare in 1995 at the Royal Highland thus keeping the Stud's name in the RHASS Prize Lists! She was also Reserve in the St John's Wells Competition with Iona O'Kinnoull in 1995. However she behaves impeccably at home and I enjoy riding her and like Meg and Ella before she has been my riding pony. Last year when we were in the States we had the good fortune to go Western Riding when we were staying with friends in Wyoming and on return I decided I must have a western saddle! After lots of phone calls and e-mails to and from Cody in Wyoming a Western Saddle and Bridle were duly shipped here and I have great fun riding Xanthe in them. However since she has only had one foal (Zeus of Achnacarry by MacGregor of Achnacarry) we have decided to put her in foal next year and because we have a free return to MacGregor she is going to visit him in April/May.
